The solid Ironwood Mortar & Pestle was made in early 1970s & show normal signs of wear. This Mortar & Pestle is made from a Desert Ironwood, better for grinding dry herbs, whole pepper corns. Since wood is softer than granite or ceramic it relies on gentle bruising rather than abrasive crushing, to avoid over processing delicate ingredients.
