This is a vintage hand turned wooden mortar and pestle made in Italy. It has a warm aged patina that is somewhat irregular. here are a few dark spots that look like ink or some sort of pigment inside. It does look fairly clean inside, but I cannot say if it's food safe because I don't know what was in there before. I would use it just for decor or grinding nonedible items.
